Welcome to FOODIES!

Why do adults get to have all the fun? All those newspaper reviews and food critics...what if us adolescents want to check out what's on our plates? So who's up for the FOODIES Challenge?

The FOODIES challenge was created by moi the very second I started this blog. (It is not, unfortunately, some nationwide sweep of kids submitting meals that I'm just trying to promote. It is most certainly not nationwide. I hope you didn't get your hopes up.) It's simple: Take a picture of your dinner (or lunch, or breakfast)--delicious or not--and upload it to the site. Then describe your meal a bit. Hopefully we'll all get delicious recipes and food ideas, plus we'll get to see what other people everywhere are eating! Here's a sample (I didn't actually eat this):

Black Bean Tacos with Vegetables

Meal: Dinner
Who made it: Me
Tastyness: 8/10
Healthyness: 9/10
Comments: These tacos were very good. Blah blah blah...
(try to include a recipe if you liked the meal)

Does your lack of adequate technology prevent you from posting pictures? That's okay. Just describe the meal in depth, or get a picture from Google.

So are you ready?

Sincerely,
MS. FOODIE

Tonight's Yummy Dinner

Capellini with Tomato-Basil-Garlic Sauce
Meal: Dinner
Who made it: My mom
Tastyness: 9/10
Healthyness: 7.5/10
Comments: This isn't like a typical tomato sauce, and this sauce isn't even tomato-based! It's basically just a garlic and oil sauce with added tomatoes and basil. Either way, though, it's delicious. To make, simply boil capellini according to package directions. Meanwhile, heat 1/3 cup oil in a sauce pan. Add 3 cloves of chopped garlic and stir until garlic is fragrant. Add 1 chopped tomato and parsley and red pepper flakes to taste. Combine the sauce with the pasta, and top with some shredded basil.

Meal: Lunch or Dinner
Who made it: Mom (I took this photo with my iPod)
Tastyness: 9/10
Healthyness: 10/10
Comments: It's very quick and easy to make!

Ingredients:

1 pound of ground meat (chicken or turkey, chicken preferred)
1 medium sized, minced onion

1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch
2 slices of soaked bread (soaked in milk(water for kosher recipe)
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
1 cup of crushed cornflakes (specifically plain cornflakes!!!) (I prefer to crush the cornflakes myself because store bought ones give this dish a weird taste)
Canola oil (this is for frying so amount depends on the size of your pan)

1. Mix everything but cornflakes and oil.
2. Mold the mixture into balls and flatten them (use your hands for this step).
3. Roll this in cornflakes.
4. Fry at medium-high temperature for 3 minutes on each side.
5. Enjoy your delicious meal!
